Investing in solar power
GEORGE, IA - Diversified Technologies, Inc. (DTI) recently invested in solar power energy as a way to help alleviate high energy costs and reduce our overall environmental footprint. The solar energy panels, which are located just to the south the plant, are able to power the main Dur-A-Lift, Inc. facility as well as the mills division of Sudenga Industries, Inc.
Solar energy is the cleanest and most abundant energy source that is available is now also the cheapest energy source in the world, surpassing wind and fossil fuel counterparts like natural gas. This Inexpensive, low-carbon technology is able to harness renewable energy from the sun that is then converted into thermal or electrical energy.
In just one (very cloudy) week of generating power the solar panels at DTI have already produced over 5,000 kilowatts of power. This equates to:
- 3 CO2 tons emission avoided
- 345 gallons of gas offset
- 210 electric cars charged
- 931,105 smart phones charged, or
- 150 nights of powering the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center
“After doing a lot of research on the various alternative energy sources that are available, we chose solar as the best fit for our situation. We are really excited for what this can do in reducing our energy costs and reducing our environmental impact,” Larry Kruse, president of Diversified Technologies.
Diversified Technologies, Inc. is the parent company of Sudenga Industries and Dur-A-Lift. DTI employs over 260 people, making it one of the largest employers in northwest Iowa. Production for all divisions and product lines takes place on its campus just outside of George, Iowa.
